Delft, 8 June 2026 – Whiffle appoints Stefaan Rodts as Chief Executive Officer, marking a decisive step in the company’s growth. The company has spent over a decade earning its position in renewable energy. The next phase reaches further — across new industries and markets. Stefaan brings the commercial leadership to make that happen.
Stefaan’s career spans strategy consulting, entrepreneurial advisory, and board-level leadership. He holds an MSc in Applied Physics from TU Delft and an MBA from INSEAD. He spent 17 years at McKinsey & Company advising organisations on strategy, growth, and large-scale transformation, and has since worked directly with entrepreneurial companies as board member and partner at Newtone. For Stefaan, this appointment marks a return to deep tech, where his career was first shaped.
“Whiffle is exactly the kind of company I have always been drawn to — where the technology is the real differentiator. Across industries, consequential decisions are still being made on weather data that simply isn’t precise enough and that gap has a real cost. Whiffle’s physics-based approach delivers weather intelligence at a resolution and accuracy that sets a new standard. I am here because I believe this is one of the most important technology opportunities in the market today.” — Stefaan Rodts, Chief Executive Officer
Today, Whiffle’s atmospheric modelling technology is trusted by leading renewable energy developers globally, such as GE and RWE. The next chapter for the company extends well beyond wind and solar. Weather-driven industries (energy, infrastructure, environmental monitoring and defence, among others) are demanding ever-higher quality data. The cost of getting it wrong is rising. As AI reshapes how the world processes and acts on that data, the demand for physics-based, verifiable weather intelligence has never been more relevant. Whiffle is at the centre of that shift — and Stefaan’s appointment is how the company accelerates it.
Harm Jonker, Co-founder and Chief Innovation Officer —”What we have built at Whiffle is the most rigorous physics-based atmospheric modelling technology operating at scale today and we have proven it in one of the most demanding sectors there is. That is not a starting point, that is a foundation. What excites me about Stefaan is that he sees the full scope of what this technology can achieve and he has the experience to take it there. Whiffle’s best chapter is the one we are now writing.”
Kuldip Singh, Chair of the Supervisory Board — “Whiffle has earned a strong market position and the confidence of leading players in the renewables sector. What the board sees now is a company ready to move into a significantly larger opportunity, and in Stefaan, a leader with the strategic depth and commercial experience to capture it.”
About Whiffle — Whiffle B.V. was founded in 2015 as a spin-out of Delft University of Technology. With its roots in science, the company develops Large-Eddy Simulation (LES) atmospheric models and their implementation on high-performance GPU-based computing systems, producing the world’s first LES-based operational weather model. Whiffle delivers highly accurate, high-resolution weather data for wind and solar resource assessment, energy yield modelling, and power forecasting, with applications expanding across weather-sensitive industries.
