Whiffle unveils new brand identity

Whiffle, a leading provider in high resolution weather forecasting, launched a new corporate brand strategy, redesigned logo and website emphasizing its innovative and scientific prowess in various renewable sectors. These changes come at a time when the company is evolving its offerings and expanding its global reach.

Whiffle’s new look and feel represents the company’s commitment to rigorous science and its role of powering a future where weather forecasting and simulation is offered on a hyper local scale. The new branding is based on Whiffle’s core values of science, reliability, trust, and responsibility and inspired on weather map imagery.

‘’We are proud of our new brand identity,’’ commented Harm Jonker CEO at Whiffle. “In recent years, we have been working hard to refine the technology and make it easy for customers to use. We are now seeing a significant increase in commercial interest. While our name remains the same, our logo and website have changed significantly to better showcase who Whiffle is and what we bring to market for our clients. Our solutions are physics-based which sets us apart from other providers. To further enhance our product and to develop new applications, this year alone we are doubling our R&D headcount.”

Whiffle’s highly advanced weather model makes renewable energy production more predictable. Optimized by artificial intelligence and machine learning, the company offers the world’s first operational weather model based on Large Eddy Simulation (LES). The calculations of the weather model are run on graphic processing units (GPUs), allowing local turbulence and underlying processes and conditions in the atmosphere to be captured with unprecedented detail.

Whiffle calculates wind speed and solar irradiation with horizontal resolutions of 10’s of meters, including all effects of the surroundings: vegetation, landscape, sea state, obstacles, wake, and blockage effects. More accurate weather forecasting lowers imbalance risk and costs for energy companies. The model can also be used to optimize the configuration of wind farms and better predict future energy yields: aspects that are important for lowering financing costs and increasing annual yields.

About Whiffle
Whiffle B.V. was founded in 2015, starting as a spin out of the Dutch Delft University of Technology. With its roots in science, the company continues to use cutting edge R&D to further develop Large Eddy Simulation (LES) models and its unique implementation on high performance computing systems. This resulted in the world’s first LES based operational weather model that produces highly accurate and ultra high-resolution weather forecasts. Application areas of Whiffle’s model include wind and solar power projects and air quality. www.whiffle.nl
